TWD: Not quite Tiramisu (Cup)Cake

When I first saw the recipe choice for this week, I was planning on sitting it out. I had many reasons for sitting it out, too.

1- I DON'T LIKE tiramisu. Sorry for the caps, but I really don't like it. Can't stomach it.

2- I don't drink, so going out and buying alcohol for something I don't like just didn't make sense.
3- All of my taste testers don't drink alcohol or coffee, so a dessert containing those two things just wouldn't get eaten.
4- Anya's birthday party was on Saturday and more cake just didn't sound good.

So, with all those reasons to not make this recipe you may be wondering why I did. Well... the reason I decided not to sit out this week was because of the host. Megan of My Baking Adventures chose this recipe and I love Megan and her blog. She is such a sweetheart and I really wanted to bake along with her this week.

So... here I am, baking along, although this is not quite the recipe everyone else made this week. I omitted the alcohol and coffee and made cupcakes instead of a whole cake. I also had some cream cheese in the fridge and decided to not make an extra trip to the German market for mascarpone, so no mascarpone in the frosting.

The cake recipe was delicious. I really enjoyed it. I also liked the frosting. It was so different than the traditional cream cheese frosting thanks to the addition of fresh whipped cream. I topped the cupcakes with chopped bittersweet chocolate and called it a day. Overall these were really good cupcakes!

Thanks to Megan for hosting this week. Check out her blog for the recipe or just check out her blog! :) Also, check the blogroll to see people who made the ACTUAL recipe!

Good for you for making it work for you!

I agree with you. I see to value in buying supplies and making a product that I know my taste testers don't like. I applaud you for making the changes (a lot of us would have to make those changes as well).

I love tiramisu, but can understand why you don't. Your cupcake sounds good too--the cake by itself was delicious.

I don't know - your version looks pretty darn tasty to me! The cake was fab by itself, so I think you made all the perfect omissions!

Thanks for your kind words - that really made my night!

I'm glad you were able to make a version that worked for you! I've never enjoyed tiramisu before but I thought Dorie's recipe was good!

Of course I made cupcakes, too. Yours look super moist and delicious.

I have to go to bed soon (it's midnight here), so I will post mine tomorrow morning.

XOXO

I don't do coffee or alcohol either, so I would have been in the same predicament, it looks like you came out with something just as lovely and delicious!

Your cupcakes look really good, I made cupcakes too!

I love how you made it work for you. I myself love tiramisu...it is one of my favorite desserts but I won't make it myself because it is so rich! I usually save it for special desserts out. ;0)

Cute cupcake! The cake recipe itself was good, so I can see how it would make for a tasty cupcake!

I had some of the same reasons for not making this week's recipe. I decided to make something else instead because there were so many ingredients that I don't consume. I was afraid of omitting that many ingredients--I didn't think it would work out. Now that I've read your post, I'll have to try the adapted version someday!

Nice adaptation Christine! I love how your cupcakes turned out.

Great job, love the cupcakes idea as I ended up throwing out about 1/3 of the cake before it could get eaten. Yum!

Due to my schedule, I had to "tweak" the recipe, too - I used lady fingers!

I think your version looks quite delicious! I thought the cake was really good, so I can totally see using it as a base in the future with a different type of frosting or filling.

Way to take one for the team!

I'm not a huge fan of tiramisu myself, but I did love the cake recipe and the frosting was soooo good. Combining cream cheese with whipped cream (and butter for me) made for a perfect topping.

Your a trooper Cristine, I don't blame you for thinking about sitting out. But you made the most of it and got a great cupcake too!

so glad you decided not to sit this out. you can always buy the little bottles of alcohol for baking recipes - they're like the size you get on an airplane? in any case, in most recipes the alcohol bakes out so it doesn't taste overly alcohol-y

anyway, your cupcakes are so cute!

YUM!!! I can't wait to try it with the frosting sometime.

I'm not a fan of tiramisu either. I just don't like soggy cakes and biscuits. You found a perfect solution. Your cupcakes look delicious!

Adjusting recipes to yours and your family's tastes is what the learning bit is all about, right? This looks delightful...but not anything as delightful looking as all those birthday pics! So much fun! Thanks for sharing.

Nope, me either. No coffee. No alcohol. Don't like tiramisu. But your not tiramisu cup cakes look tasty.
